Bausch & Lomb has initiated a permanent, worldwide recall of ReNu with MoistureLoc, the company announces May 15. Months of investigation have turned up no definitive answers as to why use of the product is causing Fusarium keratitis, a potentially blinding fungal infection, leading CEO Ron Zarrella to conclude that a 'perfect storm' occurs when the product usage encounters "certain environmental conditions, lens-wear care practices, and other factors." The CDC's Morbidity & Mortality Weekly Report issued May 19 affirms that the MoistureLoc formulation was the only ReNu product with a statistically significant association with reporsts of Rusarium Keratitis, the company notes.
