The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency will conduct a formal 12-week "public consultation exercise" in January 2005 to assess "whether the controls on kava kava remain justified and proportionate" and to "review the evidence relating to the hepatotoxicity" of the herbal, the UK health agency announces Aug. 11.
