Executive Summary
Request to amend food additive regs to "provide for safe use of Haematococcus algae astaxanthin as a nutrient supplement" withdrawn by Kailua-Kona, Hawaii-based firm, FDA says in June 27 Federal Register. Unable to comply with agency's 30-day deadline to submit supporting safety data, Cyanotech withdrew filing so it could furnish additional test data on astaxanthin levels in foods such as energy bars.
