White House warns US FDA budget cuts would severely limit agency

This article was originally published in SRA

Executive Summary

The White House has expressed concern over legislation passed by the House of Representatives on 16 June that seeks to cut the US Food and Drug Administration's discretionary funding for fiscal year 2012 by $285 million, or 11.5% below FY 2011's level1,2. If the Senate adopts the bill, the agency's ability to protect the public health, ensure food and medical products are safe and improve Americans' access to generics and biosimilars would be severely limited, the White House Office of Management and Budget has warned.
