As part of sweeping reforms planned for the National Health Service in England, the UK coalition government is to start work on developing a new value-based pricing strategy for drugs in April 2011. The reforms also include an overhaul of the way healthcare services are commissioned, meaning the role of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, NICE, will be dramatically expanded.
