House bill beefs up GAO

Executive Summary

The Government Accountability Office Improvement Act of 2008, H.R. 6388, which would reinstate GAO's ability to sue if documents are "improperly withheld from the agency," passes the House July 29. Other provisions give the agency authority to interview federal employees and administer oaths, and affirm GAO's right to obtain records from CMS, FDA and FTC- agencies that previously denied GAO access to documents.
