Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Tom Harkin, D-Iowa,. and Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, sent a letter to members of the American Herbal Products Association to congratulate the association for 25 years of "positive contribution to the herbal products community," according to a March 8 announcement. "AHPA is highly regarded in Washington, D.C. as a knowledgeable and trusted voice on issues that impact trade in herbal products," the senators say in the Feb. 16 letter. "AHPA has gained a reputation for tracking complex issues in this diverse sector." Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J., chairman of the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee adds the association has "played a seminal role in the effort to establish a Federal serious adverse event reporting mechanism for the dietary supplement industry"...
