CLA and weight regain

Executive Summary
Daily supplementation with conjugated linoleic acid does not prevent weight or fat mass regain, a study published in the March American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds. Thomas Meinert Larsen, Royal Veterinary & Agricultural University, Frederiksberg, Denmark, et al., placed 122 obese healthy subjects with a Body Mass Index of over 28 on an eight-week diet, then focused on 101 participants who lost >8% of their body weight. Of these participants, 51 took 3.4 g of CLA/day for one year; the remaining 50 took placebo. "After one year, no significant difference in body weight or body fat regain was observed between the treatments," Larsen et al. report. The CLA group regained an average 4.0 kg-5.6 kg of body weight and 2.1 kg-5.0 kg of fat mass while the placebo group reported an average 4.0 kg-5.6 kg gain in body weight and 2.7 kg-4.9 kg gain in fat mass...
