Forbes Medi-Tech's Reducol has been deemed "substantially equivalent" for seven new food groups by European regulatory authorities, the firm announces March 2. The cholesterol-lowering ingredient was approved by the European Union Standing Commission on the Food Chain & Animal Health for use in margarine-type products, milk-based products and soy drinks. Forbes Medi-Tech says the "functional food solution" is meant for people with mildly high cholesterol or statin-sensitive consumers.
