California jury clears Novartis of charges that the firm concealed material facts about the presence of phenylpropanolamine (PPA) in cough/cold products, firm announces Jan. 23. The jury also rejects allegations that Triaminicin and Tavist D "were unsafe products with inadequate warnings," Novartis says. Firm notes a New Jersey jury cleared the firm of similar charges in a case one week earlier. California, New Jersey verdicts are first in a number of cases filed against consumer health product manufacturers concerning the use of PPA in cough/cold products.
