Executive Summary
Amendments to Poison Control Enhancement & Awareness Act would provide $30 mil. for each of fiscal years 2005-2009 to maintain funding for Poison Control Center grant program. Funding would be used to improve centers' response capacity to high call volume during national crises, develop standardized prevention programs, improve data collection. Sen. Michael DeWine (R-Ohio) introduced legislation March 21. S 686 further stipulates that national media campaign promoting use of PCC receive $1.5 mil. per year for same five-year period and that $2 mil. be dedicated annually to maintain funding for national toll-free poison prevention line.
