Executive Summary
Meeting scheduled for March 25 will evaluate "recognized scientific principles that would facilitate reaching a conclusion as to whether a particular substance is a 'metabolite' of another substance that is a 'dietary ingredient' defined in the [FD&C Act] and, therefore, is itself a dietary ingredient," according to March 5 Federal Register notice. FDA says the act currently "is ambiguous...as to what substances are, or are not, metabolites of other substances," which makes it "often difficult to determine whether a particular substance...can be marketed as [a] dietary supplement." Meeting will be held at Holiday Inn, 10,000 Baltimore Ave., College Park, Md.
