Executive Summary
Associations' revised 2001 "Guidelines for Preventing Heart Attack and Death in Patients with Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease" urges increased consumption of omega-3 fatty acid-containing foods for LDL-cholesterol management and adjunct therapy for high triglyceride levels. New recommendations also suggest use of antiplatelet agents clopidogrel or warfarin in patients unable to take aspirin. As with original guidelines, smoking cessation is prescribed.
