Proceedings from the June 3-4, 1996, NIH workshop on the "Role of Dietary Supplements for Physically Active People" are published in a supplement to the August issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The event was sponsored by NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements, the American Society of Clinical Nutrition and the American Institute of Nutrition. In an editorial preface to the 171-page supplement, former ODS Director Bernadette Marriott, PhD, and Quaker Oats' Mitchell Kanter state: "The research needs identified in this supplement, we trust, will be the impetus for heightened, high-quality, interdisciplinary research and research support in this very topical area"
