Executive Summary
TV commercial for J&J/Merck's new Mylanta line extension focuses on the product's improved taste; the ad broke Feb. 2. "When I take liquid antacid, I feel, like, blech," says one person interviewed in the food court of a crowded mall. "It's like liquid chalk!" another exclaims. "If you had something that tastes better, it would be a joy," a woman states. The interviewees are given Mylanta Supreme and voice approval with such comments as "Wow, that's good," "Very light" and "It tastes like a dessert." The voiceover says "It's the only liquid antacid with no chemical preservatives," adding, "Supreme relief. Taste it for yourself." The product began shipping in January ("The Tan Sheet" Jan. 18, p. 3)
