Stevita citizen petition

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

Rep. Dan Burton (R.-Ind.) requests in an Oct. 26 letter to FDA monthly updates on the agency's actions on a citizen's petition regarding actions taken by the FDA Dallas District office against Arlington, Tex.-based Stevita company, which included a request to witness Stevita's destruction of books its sells on the botanical stevia. Stevita says its stevia products are dietary supplements, but the agency says the products are sold as unapproved conventional food products ("The Tan Sheet" July 6, In Brief). The congressman "strongly" urges FDA to grant the citizen's petition
