Executive Summary

SUDANESE GUM ARABIC IMPORT WAIVER BY THE PRESIDENT would be permitted under the Freedom from Religious Persecution Act, which cleared the House May 14 in a 375-41 vote. As passed, HR 2431 would allow the President to "waive the imposition of any sanction again Sudan...for periods of not more than 12 months each, if the President, for each waiver...determines that the national security interests of the United States justify such a waiver." HR 2431 was introduced by Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) Sept. 8.
