FDA guidance on health claims section of the FDA Modernization Act to be available "very shortly," FDA Office of Food Labeling Director of Technical Evaluation Virginia Wilkening says at a meeting in Washington, D.C. April 30. FDAMA allows food manufacturers to make health claims based on authoritative statements of government scientific bodies, such as the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention or the National Institutes of Health, without FDA approval ("The Tan Sheet" Jan. 19, p. 13).
