March 27. "With regard to selenium, there is clear evidence to support the essentiality of this nutrient for infants," Infant Formula Council President Robert Gelardi asserted. "It is our recommendation that the minimum requirement for selenium in formulas designed for the premature infant should be at least 1.5 mcg/kcal," he stated.
