SELENIUM IN PRETERM FORMULAS SUPPORTED BY INDUSTRY COUNCIL in a presentation to the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Life Sciences Research Office at a meeting on micronutrient requirements for preterm infant formulas in Bethesda, Md. March 27. "With regard to selenium, there is clear evidence to support the essentiality of this nutrient for infants," Infant Formula Council President Robert Gelardi asserted. "It is our recommendation that the minimum requirement for selenium in formulas designed for the premature infant should be at least 1.5 mcg/kcal," he stated.
