National uniformity in House-passed bill close to Senate version.

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

NATIONAL UNIFORMITY PROVISIONS IN HOUSE-PASSED FDA REFORM WILL MIRROR those in S 830, the Senate FDA reform bill cleared Sept. 23 by a vote of 98-2, with two exceptions. The House bill lacks an amendment similar to that attached to the Senate bill by Patty Murray (D-Wash.), which would require HHS to respond to states' petitions for exemptions to nationally uniform regs within 120 days ("The Tan Sheet" Sept. 29, p. 13). The House bill also does not contain language included in S 830 regarding the protection of "the health and safety of children" added by Murray.
