Executive Summary
Phenolphthalein: National Toxicology Program announces July 11 its intent to consider the OTC laxative ingredient for inclusion in its "Report on Carcinogens, Ninth Edition," a Congressionally-mandated listing of known and "reasonably anticipated" human carcinogens. A recent NTP study on phenolphthalein linked the substance to a greater incidence of lymphoma in transgenic mice ("The Tan Sheet" May 5, p. 6).
