OTC NATIONAL UNIFORMITY PROVISION PASSES SENATE LABOR CMTE. by a 15-3 vote during a June 18 markup of Labor Committee Chairman Jim Jeffords' (R-Vt.) FDA reform bill (S 830). Introduced by Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), the uniformity amendment, which also covers cosmetics, would pre-empt state or local laws that differ or are in addition to existing regulations covering OTCs and cosmetics under the Food, Drug & Cosmetic Act, the Poison Prevention Act or the Fair Packaging & Labeling Act.
