PSYLLIUM FIBER/HEART DISEASE CLAIM FOR FOODS PROPOSED by FDA in the May 22 Federal Register. The proposed rule would amend the existing reg permitting food labeling to bear a health claim on the association between soluble fiber from whole oats and a lower risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) to include soluble fiber from psyllium husks. FDA announced its authorization of the claim for whole oats and reduced CHD in January ("The Tan Sheet" Jan. 27, In Brief).
