FDA FY 1998 budget proposal: Cuts the federal obligation for drug reviews to $296 mil. from $329 mil. in the current fiscal year, which began Oct. 1. The president's budget, released Feb. 6, proposes a total FDA authority of $820 mil. The cut includes a drop in total personnel compensation from $470 mil. in FY 1997 to $421 mil. in FY 1998.
