GNC opened 148 stores in the third quarter (ended Oct. 12), of which half are company-owned and half are franchised. GNC operates a total of 2,887 stores worldwide; 1,767 are company-owned and 1,120 are franchised. The stores operate under the General Nutrition Center, Natures Food Centre, Health & Diet Centre, Nature's Fresh and Amphora names in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and 16 countries. GNC is a specialty retailer of vitamins, supplements, sports nutrition, personal care and other health-related products.
