This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

BIOLOGICALLY "NEUTRAL" SUNSCREEN VEHICLES MAY INCREASE EFFICIENCY of the products, Anthony Young, PhD, University of London, said at FDA's Sept. 19-20 public meeting on the photochemistry and photobiology of sunscreens. Noting that the sunscreen vehicle can enhance the effects of UV radiation, thus altering the SPF of the active ingredients, Young pointed out that "any adverse effects in the vehicle might be counteracted totally or pretty well by the sunscreen."
