Executive Summary
EPHEDRINE "STREET DRUG ALTERNATIVE" PRODUCTS CONTAIN SIMILAR LEVELS of the ingredient as ephedrinecontaining supplements making weight-loss and energy claims in a recently updated market survey conducted by FDA. Results of the survey were presented by FDA Consumer Safety Officer Constance Hardy at the Aug. 27-28 meeting of the agency's Food Advisory Committee. The analysis of 125 ephedrine products showed, Hardy said, that "street drug alternative products, in general, do not have higher levels of ephedrine alkaloids compared to other products."
