Executive Summary
VETERANS' AFFAIRS REDUCED OTC OUTPATIENT DISPENSING SUGGESTED BY GAO at a June 11 House Veterans' Affairs/health care subcommittee hearing as one way to cut VA pharmacy program costs. U.S. General Accounting Office Health Care Delivery and Quality Issues Director David Baine presented preliminary findings on controlling costs through eliminating or reducing OTC coverage for veterans. A full GAO report, prepared at the request of subcommittee Chairman Tim Hutchinson (R-Ark.), will be completed "later this summer," Baine predicted.
