Executive Summary

DSHEA DOES NOT CREATE "FREE-FIRE ZONE" FOR STRUCTURE/FUNCTION CLAIMS -- FTC Assistant Director Division of Advertising Practices Anne Maher cautioned at a Sept. 20 session of the Council for Responsible Nutrition's 1995 annual meeting. "Although [the Dietary Supplement Health & Education Act] allows structure/function claims on dietary supplement labels without prior FDA approval," she warned: "this shouldn't be looked on as creating a free-fire zone for such claims."
