Executive Summary
LACTOSE-DIGESTIVE AIDS FOUND "UNNECESSARY" WITH SMALL DAILY MILK INTAKE of a glass or less by people who believe they are lactose-intolerant, researchers with the University of Minnesota Department of Food Science and Nutrition and the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center reported in the July 6 New England Journal of Medicine. Fabrizis Suarez, MD, et al. concluded that "when lactose intake is limited to the equivalent of 240 ml [eight ounces] of milk or less a day, symptoms are likely to be negligible and the use of lactose-digestive aids unnecessary."
