Bee propolis recalls

Executive Summary
Manufacturers of bee propolis products have initiated recalls after finding unacceptable levels of lead in their products. The recalls by a number of firms, including Montana Naturals and Premier One Products, follow an Aug. 8 bulletin sent out by the National Nutritional Foods Association urging a halt to the sale of bee propolis products where the principal ingredient is more than 10% of total product weight ('The Tan Sheet" Aug. 15, p. 8). The recently formed Bee Products Association is developing testing methods to quantify lead content in propolis products. Companies said they are working with BPA and NNFA to determine what lead levels are acceptable and when their products can be re-released
