Executive Summary
ALCOHOL-CONTAINING MOUTHWASHES AND CANCER: MORE EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDIES are needed to clarify the potential association between the use of mouthwashes containing alcohol and an increased risk of oral cancer, the OTC Plaque Products Subcommittee of FDA's Dental Products Panel recommended on June 29. Subcommittee Acting Chair Robert Genco, DDS/PhD, State University of New York School of Medicine, suggested that "there is need for a new series of studies" due to concerns raised by subcommittee members regarding the ambiguity of the results from available epidemiological studies.
