Executive Summary
Submits petition on iron-containing dietary supplements to FDA and CPSC on Oct. 15, asking the agencies to officially adopt the proposal as a regulation. NDMA also requested that "other petitions which may have been submitted on the subject . . . be denied insofar as they would contradict, add to, or subtract from the NDMA program." The proposal is essentially identical to NDMA's voluntary program and education campaign that was unveiled at a Sept. 28 CPSC conference to address accidental iron poisonings in young children ("The Tan Sheet" Oct. 4, p. 14). Thirty-four state attorneys general also have petitioned the agency to adopt their proposal as the basis for a regulation ("The Tan Sheet" Aug. 30, p. 14).
