Executive Summary
FDA's Food Advisory Committee and Folic Acid Subcommittee will convene Oct. 14-15 to discuss regulatory initiatives related to approving a folic acid health claim directed at women of childbearing-age for the prevention of neural tube defects. The initiatives include a folic acid health claim proposal, amendments to the standards of identity for grain products to require the addition of folic acid and an amendment to the food additive regulation for folic acid ("The Tan Sheet" Aug. 16, p. 3). The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. on both days at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, Va.
