Executive Summary
Commissioner David Kessler and Deputy Commissioner Michael Taylor were among an agency contingent that met with House Appropriations/agriculture subcommittee Chairman Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) and Rep. Joe Skeen (R-N.M.) on April 21 to discuss FDA's use of Nutrition Labeling & Education Act provisions to regulate dietary supplements. The National Nutritional Foods Association, which had asked the subcommittee to withhold FY 1994 appropriations implementing NLEA for supplements ("The Tan Sheet" April 12, p. 8), also attended the meeting.
