Executive Summary
During a House Energy & Commerce/Health Subcommittee hearing on CMS’ proposed changes to the Part D program, the sole patient representative came from the HIV community. As did everyone else at the hearing, he urged CMS to withdraw changes to the “protected class” concept in Part D – even though HIV would not have been affected by the change. The demonstration of united front from the patient community paid off, and CMS has since said it will not proceed with that section of the rule.
