GSK wins Paxil product liability suit
Executive Summary
A California federal court dismissed a suit against GlaxoSmithKline alleging the company had failed to adequately warn that Paxil (paroxetine) increased the risk of suicide. In a Jan. 30 ruling, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California found in O'Neal v. SmithKline Beecham that the plaintiff's claims were preempted by federal law. Approximately 100 cases have been brought against GSK claiming the drug caused homicidal or suicidal behavior.
