Rep. Thomas' (R-Calif.) "Medicare Balanced Budget Refinement Act" passed Nov. 5 by a 388-25 vote. The act would restore $11.8 bil. over five years to health care providers affected by Balanced Budget Act Medicare reimbursement cuts. Legislation includes a provision written by House Commerce Committee Chairman Bliley (R-Va.) that would provide an additional $200 mil. over five years to extend Medicare coverage of immunosuppressant drugs, and would allow for a new policy to provide drugs to transplant recipients who need them past the current 36-month limit
