FDA budget

Agriculture Appropriations bill (HR 1906) allocating $1.2 bil. to FDA for salaries and expenses in fiscal 2000 passes House by a 246-183 vote on June 8. Among amendments approved was one by Appropriations Committee Chairman Young (R-Fla.) to cut FDA's budget by $20 mil.; $10 mil. would have been allocated for General Services Administration rental payments. Another amendment by Rep. Coburn (R-Okla.) would ban FDA from using federal funds to approve drug products for the inducement of abortion
