Executive Summary
More than 40 state Medicaid agencies now cover the antischizophrenic agent (clozapine), the firm announced April 23. "Many" states decided to provide reimbursement for Clozaril therapy since April 1, when Sandoz announced availability of the drug through normal wholesale channels ("The Pink Sheet" April 1, T&G-2 and April 15, T&G-6) .... Norplant Foundation: Wyeth- Ayerst is providing $ 2.8 mil. to establish a foundation assisting women who could not otherwise afford the implanted contraceptive. Program will be directed by Philip Darney, MD, San Francisco General Hospital Family Planning Clinic director. The five-year Norplant System costs about $ 350, including certain equipment needed to implant the product ("The Pink Sheet" Feb. 11, In Brief). Wyeth Ayerst said 23 state Medicaid agencies now cover Norplant.
