IMS to license Medco data
Executive Summary
IMS America and Medco Containment Services and its subsidiary, Medical Marketing Group, finalize agreement granting IMS license to incorporate certain elements of the mail service prescription data of Medco and Retired Persons Service (RPS) into its information services. IMS will provide the data through its Sales Management Services, DDD and the Geographic Perscription Service, its promotional testing services and through a new national audit of mail service prescriptions. RPS is the mail service pharmacy for the American Association of Retired Persons. Together, RPS and Medco generate approximately 54% of all mail service prescription business in the U.S., making them the two largest mail service providers. Mail order data has been a wild-card in recent drug market statistics.
