Hepatitis B vaccine is a Merck product, not a Chiron product, as was reported in the Aug. 4 edition of "The Pink Sheet." Chiron cloned and expressed the gene under contract to Merck, and Merck then developed the vaccine. Recombivax HB was approved July 23. The headline and outside to the story announcing approval cited date as June 23 ("The Pink Sheet" July 28, p. 3).
