With TheraFlu PowerPods, GSK Brews Market For OTCs From Coffee Makers

GSK takes Theraflu brand from medicine cabinet to kitchen with launch of PowerPods of OTC ingredients delivered through single-serve coffee makers. Introduction of non-coffee pods also is growing, including lemonade, hot ciders, teas and Campbell's Soup pods.

GlaxoSmithKline PLC is inviting consumers to use an OTC cough/cold remedy where they cook by offering TheraFlu PowerPods, pods of ingredients used with single-serve coffee makers.

GSK is the first OTC brand manufacturer to launch a formulation in a single-serve pod, though US drugstore chain CVS Health Corp. has offered generic TheraFlu formulations in pods...

TheraFlu PowerPods contain OTC monograph ingredients and “no additional FDA approval was needed” to offer the formulation in the new delivery format, said Latisha Tillie, GSK's Theraflu senior brand manager....
