PBMs Offering Prescribers Real Time Visibility On Cost-Sharing, Cheaper Alternatives

Pharmacy benefit managers CVS Health Corp. and OptumRx Inc. have launched programs enabling providers to receive information on a patient's cost sharing responsibility for specific drugs and on less expensive alternatives before prescribing or filling a prescription is filled.

The programs enhance transparency about drug costs and also reinforce the impact of formulary placement. Express Scripts Holding Co. has offered similar information to its members for several years...
