Human Genome Research Led To $65 Billion In Economic Output In 2012, Says Battelle Report

A Battelle report on the impact of genomics on the U.S. economy found that research on human genome sequencing led to $65 billion in economic output in 2012, and contributed $31 billion toward the 2012 gross domestic product.

A June 12 report seeks to spotlight the positive effect genomic sequencing has had on the economy amid increasing downward budget pressure on federal research funding.

The report was compiled by the Battelle Memorial Institute, a research and development organization, and sponsored by research funding advocacy group United for Medical Research and diagnostics maker
