FDA international commissioner appointed

FDA appoints Lou Valdez as associate commissioner for international programs, a role in which she will lead implementation of FDA's international programs. Valdez previously served as deputy director in the HHS Office of Global Health Affairs, where she led the development of U.S. government policy positions. She enters her new role at a time of significant expansion of the agency's international presence; in addition to the recent opening of offices in China, FDA announced the opening of its first office in India Jan. 15 (1PharmAsia News, Jan. 15, 2009)
