Regenauer takes AESGP reins: Boehringer Ingelheim's Worldwide Head of Consumer Care Hans Regenauer assumes the presidency of the Association of the European Self-Medication Industry and pledges to make progress in expanding market access, improving communication and pressing for new self-care indications. Regenauer has worked with BI's OTC brands since joining the German firm in 1997 and served as chairman of the World Self-Medication Industry organization from 2005 to 2008. In June, Regenauer spoke at AESGP's annual meeting on the importance of the pharmacist's role in growing nonprescription sales in Europe (2 (Also see "European OTC Industry Prescribes Key Role For Pharmacists" - Pink Sheet, 22 Jun, 2009.)). Manfred Scheske, president of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Europe, and Alan Main, head of Bayer Consumer Care in Europe, will serve as association VPs, AESGP said July 1.

Perrigo consumer health promotion: The Allegan, Mich.-based firm elevates Shawn McCormick to consumer health care pricing and planning manager, where he will manage pricing and business planning functions for CHC marketing. In four years with the private label and generics company, McCormick served as CHC sales and marketing controller, Perrigo said June 23. Perrigo Consumer Healthcare manufactures equivalents of Advil (ibuprofen), Pepcid AC (famotidine) and Centrum multivitamins, among other OTC and nutritional products.

GNC appoints merchandising VP: Robert Kral joins General Nutrition Centers as senior VP of merchandising, similar to his previous role with Walgreens. He will report directly to GNC President and Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer Beth Kaplan, who lauded Kral's "extensive category experience in nutritional supplements" and "demonstrated track record in both operations and merchandising." Kral said June 22 Pittsburgh-based GNC still has "more room to grow" in the supplements retailing segment. The Walgreens veteran left the drugstore chain in 2007 after 27 years to work as an entrepreneur and consultant.

Kemin boosts presence in Asia: As VP of Kemin Food Ingredients' Asia Pacific region, Harish Methil will manage the company's rapid expansion into new markets. President K.P. Philip said June 4 Kemin is "pleased with the infrastructure development in Asia Pacific and China and delighted to have someone of Harish's experience and business acumen to lead this enterprise." Methil joined the Des Moines, Iowa-based company in 1999 and has served as VP of operations for Kemin's Asian agri-foods business. Also as part of its international reorganization, Kemin promotes Melanie Galloway to senior VP of North American and European sales, and will soon name a business director in charge of European commercial operations, the company announces April 13.

CFO for LifeVantage: The maker of Protandim antioxidant supplement names Carrie Carlander chief financial officer. Carlander said June 11 San Diego-based LifeVantage Corp. has generated momentum for growth by entering the network marketing channel. She also was CFO for biopharma firms Genelux Corp. and Adventrx Pharmaceuticals.

Rosato oversees NACDS Foundation: The National Association of Chain Drug Stores' VP of Pharmacy Affairs Edith Rosato adds heading up the NACDS Foundation to her responsibilities. She replaces Philip Schneider as president of the foundation involved with pharmacy student scholarships and pharmacy research, NACDS said June 30. Rosato has been with NACDS since 2000 and previously developed corporate sales strategies and marketing programs for Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals.

NCPA adds to staff: The National Community Pharmacists Association announces Joanne Thelmo will replace the retiring John Rector as senior VP and general counsel, Ronna Hauser will be the first VP of policy and regulatory affairs, and Kevin Schweers will become VP of public affairs. Hauser is a pharmacist who worked at NACDS as director of pharmacy advocacy and policy, NCPA said June 1. NCPA represents 23,000 independent pharmacists.
