Executive Summary
Consumers who use OTC heartburn medication saved on average $174 annually on physician visits and other medications, according to joint research from the Consumer Healthcare Products Association and the Nielsen Company. The report shows 94 percent of OTC heartburn users were satisfied with their treatment. The research, based on nearly 10,000 online consumer surveys conducted in 2008, also shows 61 percent surveyed said they did not discuss their symptoms with providers, according to a Jan. 26 release.
