Executive Summary

Two independent peer reviews give the Government Accountability Office "clean opinions" on its quality assurance system to produce congressional reports and testimony, the office announces June 30. An international peer review team led by the office of the Auditor General of Canada examined GAO's performance audit work, and the accounting firm KPMG assessed its financial audit work and attestation engagements. GAO seeks to improve the performance of the federal government. Recently, the office released a report on FDA that cites significant costs savings in the agency's risk-based approach to import safety inspections, but says the agency has yet to tighten its U.S. food supply protection (1"The Tan Sheet" June 16, 2008, p. 14)...
