The American Medical Association reaffirms its stance against a formal behind-the-counter drug class under consideration by FDA (see story, p. 5). A resolution introduced by AMA's Michigan delegation cites BTC prescribing as potentially "out of the realm of a pharmacist's training," which "might affect patient safety and quality of care." The AMA House of Delegates, which held its annual meeting June 15, did not pass the resolution because the association in 1984 adopted a policy opposing "a third transitional class of drugs."
